Installing New Cabinets And Flooring In Your Kitchen

Posted on: 24 September 2018

Older homes often get to a point that the kitchen needs a little freshening up. Depending on how old the home is, the cabinets and flooring can wear a lot. While some people like the old look and will keep it, a new set of cabinets and some new flooring can really make the kitchen shine.

Picking Out A New Look

Just because you want a new look in your kitchen doesn't mean that you cannot have a particular style in your kitchen. There are so many options that you can choose from when you start looking at cabinets, it may surprise you. One of the best places to start is at your local home center. There are several popular ones that have locations all over the country, and in many towns you can find two or three different ones. Most home centers have a large display area where you can look at the cabinets and styles available to get an idea of what you want in your kitchen.

Picking New Flooring

Now is a great time to replace the flooring as well. You are going to have the old cabinets out, and when you install the new ones, it would nice to have flooring that matches or contrasts with the wood on the cabinets. Since you are in the home center already, take a look at what is available and what you like. The great thing is, you can take the flooring sample over to the cabinet department and see what works if you like. Eliminating the guesswork helps avoid that, "Oh no, this doesn't match." conversation later. It is a good idea to take some samples home and look at them under your lighting as well. The cabinets and flooring may look different in the store than they do in your home. Make sure you are satisfied with your choice before you spend the money for cabinets and flooring.

Installing The New Kitchen Components

Many of the home centers that sell flooring and cabinets such as kraftmaid cabinets also offer installation. They can line up a contractor for you and have them come to do the work. The good thing about this is that the store has used these contractors before, and many of the stores certify them as their preferred installers so you know that the work will be done right. If there is a problem, you can deal with the store and if the contractor doesn't make it right, they stand to lose a lot of work and income. It is a pretty good motivation to get the work done right the first time.
